Training Program

Reston Runners invites new and experienced runners and race walkers to their annual half marathon training program. Whether you're completing your first half marathon or experienced and shooting for a PR, there's a team and training schedule to help meet your goals. Come and enjoy our comradery and the benefits of training with a group of runners with similar goals.

The twelve-week program is tailored for four levels: advanced running, moderate running, run/walk and race walk. The training program begins on January 27 at the Reston Runners Isaac Newton Square run location and will culminate with the race on April 21, 2024. We will hold group runs each Saturday at 8 a.m., meeting at the start location of the regular Reston Runners Saturday courses (Reston Runners Schedule). Kahlil Dover, the program director, will ensure participants' running level and goals are matched up with appropriate coaches.

Our goal is to provide a rewarding training experience, foster long-lasting relationships within the Reston running community, and meet registrants' personal goals. Participants should feel comfortable running, run/walking or race walking 5 miles before the beginning of the program. Membership in Reston Runners is welcomed, but not required. Participation in the April 21st Runners Half Marathon of Reston requires separate registration and payment of race fees.

At the start of the training program, participants will be given a twelve-week workout schedule that specifies the Saturday meeting locations as well as additional workouts that participants are encouraged to complete on their own Sunday through Friday.

The program fee is $50 (with a $10 discount for current Reston Runners members) includes weekly group runs, coaching by Reston Runners, water & Gatorade hydration at group runs, tried & true clearly-marked courses throughout Reston, a workout schedule, all of the encouragement you would like, and a training program t-shirt.
